Mangalore, Sep 10: Police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing a cow from his neighbour's house and slaughtering it.

The arrested is identified as Mohammed. Other persons reportedly involved, namely Mohammed Sharif, Mohammed, Isaac, Anwar, Nooruddin and others are absconding.

The above accused have several cases of cattle slaughter and theft lodged against them in Bajpe police station, said sources.

As per the information obtained, a cow was stolen a midnight from a house belonging to Chandrashekar at Suralpady in Gurpur-Kaikamba. Next morning, he along with his family members went in search of the cow and later when they came to illegal slaughterhouse at Suralpady, they found blood marks, cattle waste and hide. On examining the cow hide, they realized that it was their animal.

Police during their investigation, based on the evidence found, confirmed that the cow was stolen. They hence raided the slaughterhouse where they found 3 quintals of meat.

It is learnt that police have booked them under several cases.

Various theft cases are being reported in areas like Suralpady, Ganjimutt, Malali, Mularapatna and Niddodi. In Niddodi, thieves stole 3 cattle from a shed which was locked. In Kaikamba, Hindu associations stopped a vehicle transporting cattle and rescued three animals. But so far no clue has been obtained about the persons involved in the thefts.

No permission to Suralpady slaughterhouse

It is learnt that the license of the Suralpady slaughterhouse expired two years ago, but without renewing the license, the slaughtering continued. This has made the local Hindu associations furious and a complaint has been submitted to the health department.

For stealing the cow he should be punished according to the law and also he should be made to pay the price of the cow and expenses to replace it.

He is in bad company lately.

There need not be ashobhayatra or a samajotsava like someone in this forum cautioned about. Such one incident is enough to instigate communal unrest! Why these people cannot live within their limits ethically and let others live also in peace?!!!

We need to have a very proactive organisation to stop this menace. Time has come to be very very strict on this issue. I find it necessary that Bajrang Dal, Ram Sene and every hindu organisation should form a squad to catch these thieves/criminals who kill these mute animals through illegal channels. Compensation will not bring solace to this family that took care of their cow with love and care. But still double the value of cow by way of compensation should be paid to this family and the same should be collected from the accused family by confiscating all their properties which they have acquired through illegal means. As a educated person I would not like to say but when I read this article it hurts me a lot that these thieves should be beaten black and blue till they become paralyzed.
