New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS): Four Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders in Delhi including its former state president Ramvir Singh Bidhuri Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In a ceremony held here, Bidhuri along with four of the seven NCP municipal councillors -- including Dharamveer Awana, Timsy Kasana and Phoolkali Narwaal -- was formally inducted into the BJP in the presence of party president Rajnath Singh and in-charge for Delhi elections Nitin Gadkari.
"This is just the beginning and many other leaders from different parties who want Delhi residents to get rid of Congress misrule would be joining hands with BJP in days to come," said Gadkari.
"The BJP will sweep the coming elections and it will draw huge support in days ahead," he added.
The state unit of the Congress had Friday declared that Bidhuri had formally joined their party along with four others, including Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi.
Speaking at the function, Bidhuri said that he joined the BJP because he was put off by the corruption in the Congress.
"The flawed policies and corrupt practices of Congress have convinced me to join hands with BJP so that Congress could be defeated in Delhi Assembly elections," said Bidhuri.
Elections to the Delhi assembly are scheduled in November.
According to the ABP News-Nielsen Mood of the Nation survey Thursday, the BJP is likely to get 32 of the 70 assembly seats while the ruling Congress will win 27 seats.
