Kundapur: 15 injured in head-on collision between two buses

Kundapur, Sep 11: A head-on collision between Durgamba and Vijayalaxmi buses is reported from here on Tuesday September 10. 

Durgamba bus has fallen into 5 to 6 feet deep gorge and has toppled due to the impact. Several passengers are said to be injured. Two of the injured are in serious condition.

The accident occurred near Kumbhasi Anegudde Swagatha gopura.

As per sources, more than fifteen people are said to be injured in the accident. Durgamba bus driver Ashpak (23) is seriously injured. Passengers Usha (26), Ganesh (25), Vittala Bhandari, Sudhakar Shetty, Lalitha(38) and Vijaya Laxmi bus driver Pradeep have been admitted to Koteshwar private hospital due to injuries.

Details of the accident: Durgamba bus plying from Udupi to Kundapur and Vijayalaxmi bus coming from Kundapur to Mangalore have collided.  As per eye witnesses, Vijayalxmi bus which was attempting to overtake another bus, collided against Durgamba bus coming from the opposite direction.  Durgamba bus driver who lost control in the impact has turned the bus to the left which dashed against the divider and fell into 5 to 6 feet deep ditch after getting toppled, injuring more than 10 passengers in the bus. Vijayalaxmi bus driver and some passengers in it are also injured.

Traffic on the national highway was in disarray due to the accident and Kundapur station traffic police had to come to regulate it.

Confusion on National highway: There is chaos on national highway due to incomplete work and this is the third accident that occurred during this month.

Anguish by the locals: The local people have urged the concerned to solve the problems at the highway by completing the work early.
