Monthi Fest: Aangann Konknnechem, Riyadh

Riyadh, Sep 11: Aangann Konknechem Riyadh celebrated Monthi Fest on Friday September 6, 2013.

The new corn (Novem) was brought from Mangalore and was served with milk to all members of the community present during the celebration.

Delicious homemade vegetarian food consisting of Thoushya Karamb, Allum Dhento, Sango, Podwalen, Karathe, Thendlim, Ghosalim, Benda, Moog, Sanna and Vorn was prepared by the Mangalorean community residing here. Mangalorean tradition was followed and the food was served to all in banana leaves.

Roshan Lobo, Secretary of AKR welcomed the gathering and conducted the entire programme. The programme started with a spiritual prayer dance by Stavina D'Souza, Palimar.The Word of God was read by Andrea Saldanha, Kinnigoli. Saritha D'Souza, Palimar led the prayer service and Prayer of the Faithful were read by Michelle Mascarenhas Urva, Caron Nanna D'Souza Mudarangadi, Alisha Corderio Venoor, Geshal Mendonca Mudrangadi, Nigel Dias Bondel and Stavina D'Souza Palimar. Children showered flowers while everybody sang "Sakkod Sangatha Mellyam" and "Moryek Hogollsiyam".The essence of the traditional 'Novem Jevan' was conveyed beautifully and meaningfully to all by Saritha D'souza.

Traditional Kobu (sugarcane) was distributed to mark the celebration.

Variety of entertainment programmes were organized to enthrall the people. Caron Nanna D'Souza, Mudarangady and Michelle Mascarenhas, Urva danced to foot tapping Indian music. The young talented duo left people asking for some more!

Nirmala Coreyo and Sandra D ‘Costa teamed up to conduct games for all. The indoor session of entertainment concluded with 'Houssie' which was conducted by Conrad Nazareth, Mangalore.

The adults had a gala time playing some outdoor games like Volley Ball, Tug of war, blindfolded pot breaking competition and hanging clothes. Watermelon and sweets were distributed to all . To beat the heat some dived into the pool as well

On this special occasion of 'Monthi Fest' Aangann Konknechem Riyadh exclusively released in Saudi Arabia the debut duo Konkani album "Gauv Muzo Duda Movaso" by Robin and Carol. The CD was released by Anil Flossy Albuquerque, Kevin Mueral Nazareth, Carol Allen D'Souza & AKR President Arun Palimar.     I am really overjoyed to see the photographs of Monthi Fest being celebrated at KSA where other religions are not tolerated. During my days of stay there from 1984 to 1990 AKR was not heard of

    Never thought Monthi fest celebration in the dessert of Saudi brings this much joy and happiness. Lots of thanks to AKR... Celebration, food and games(specially tug of war) were extremely good.. Wish u the best AKR for the upcoming events.
