New Delhi, Sep 22: India has advised its nationals travelling to Malaysia not to use the country's 30-day visa-free entry facility to seek employment, warning that those arriving on false job promises could face exploitation, detention and legal action.

In an advisory posted on X, the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur said it had observed a “noticeable increase” in Indian nationals arriving in Malaysia under the visa-free facility after being misled by unscrupulous agents promising employment.

The High Commission clarified that the 30-day visa-free facility available to Indian passport holders is intended only for tourism and social visits and does not permit them to take up employment.

“Many Indian nationals are misled by unscrupulous agents with false job promises, leading to overstay, illegal status, exploitation, detention and legal action,” the mission said.

It warned that seeking employment through the visa-free entry facility is a violation of Malaysian immigration rules, as the arrangement permits Indian passport holders to remain in Malaysia for up to 30 days only for tourism and social visits.

The High Commission advised genuine tourists travelling to Malaysia to carry valid and verifiable travel documents, including a confirmed return ticket and hotel booking.

Travellers must also complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days before arrival and ensure that their passports have a minimum validity of six months.

The mission has also advised Indian nationals who intend to work in Malaysia to obtain the appropriate work permit or visa with reference (VDR) before travelling.

The advisory comes amid concerns over Indian nationals being lured by fraudulent overseas employment offers and subsequently facing immigration violations and other difficulties in Malaysia.
