M'lore: Girl alleges sexual harassment at district office

Mangalore, Sep 12: Kavoor police have registered a case against Dr Nirdarsh Hegde, commandant of home guards, Dakshina Kannada and deputy commandant Purushottam in connection to the sexual harassment on a Dalit girl who works as a computer operator in the office.

In 2001, a Dalit girl from Suratkal joined the district office as an employee and in 2006 she was promoted as a computer operator. She has alleged that the official used to sexually harass her in workplace from September 2012 to May 2013.

Adding to that when the girl defended the harassment, the officials used abusive words at her, said the girl in a complaint with Kavoor police.

The sexual harassment on this issue was raised in the last SC/ST monthly meeting held at the police commissioners office.

    I must confess that for me it's not like shedding or donning a garment (whatever it's make or size)and what dirt and guilt for a woman? Hasn't a woman become pregnant again and again? So where does dirt and guilt come here?
    Think it's about time , youth of the present era had classes in the matter.In Universities too, there should be 'Love Classes' and evrything should be disected and taught by the experienced like.........well ...many in this forum!!

    What makes you feel that the girl is innocent and male is the culprit??It can be other side also..We all know it’s difficult for a women to disclose such incidents and if they don’t they have prepare for the worst..

    Then, you too should read the news and keep quiet instead of asking why the victim took so long for coming out with the complaint.

    Opinion on a public forum is for the sake of discussion hence one should be prepared to answer a counter opinion.

    Harrasment from September 2012 till May 2013. What the said girl was doing all these months? Was she sleeping? Why didn't she lodge a complaint in the initial stage? I smell something fishy in the episode. The police should investigate thoroughly (including the complainant) & bring out the truth. Adding a "dalit" word to your name doesnt mean that you can destroy someone else's life!

    I you are a woman, I expect you to be knowing how difficult it is for a victim to reveal about an abuse that is going on with her no matter where, may it be at home, school, work place or in mobility.

    If you are a man, its all natural of you to defend your gender counterpart because for a man, a sexual activity is just like shedding a garment but for a woman its like taking that dirt all over her with guilt for rest of her life.

    Lets sort out the gender part here, I'll discuss with you about rest of the points you have raised.

    May be they promised her promotion and in return asked for some fun which started in Sept 2012. Now that she realised that she is being cheated she raised the complaint.
