Ghana seeded for final World Cup draw

Accra (Ghana), Sep 13 (IANS): World No.24 Ghana will be seeded for the final play-off draw for the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup.

The 'Black Stars' will be seeded alongside Ivory Coast, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia -- the five highest ranked African teams. Cape Verde, which was disqualified for using an unqualified player, was replaced by Tunisia, reports Xinhua.

They will be placed in Pot 1 while Egypt, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Ethiopia are in the second Pot for next week's draw in Cairo.

Despite seeing a reduction in points -- from 830 to 815 -- Ghana is still ranked second-best in Africa behind Ivory Coast, with Algeria and Nigeria climbing to third and fourth.

The home and away play-off matches to find the five African representatives at the World Cup will be played during Oct 11-15 (first leg) and Nov 15-19 (second leg).
