Mangalore, Sep 15: The department of dermatology at Fr Muller Medical College (FMMC)organized a national workshop and symposium on contact dermatitis and photodermatology on Saturday September 14.
The workshop was held in association with IADVL Karnataka, IADVL Karavali-KDS, IADVL DERMACON Charitable Trust, and IADVL special interest group–SIG with occupation and environmental dermatology OED.
Jayprakash Alva, dean of the college, delivered the welcome speech.
The workshop and symposium was inaugurated by lighting the lamp ceremony.
Dr Hemangi R Jerajani, regional director, International League of Dermatological Societies–LDS, president of IADVL (2010), professor and HOD of dermatology at MGM Medical College, Mumbai, was the chief guest at the function who addressed the gathering after the inauguration.
She said, “The ceremony means coming out of darkness to light, Similarly, every individual must aspire to learn and be enlightened by knowledge and education that this symposium has initiated.”
“IADVL, which has been associated with this symposium, plays a major role in bringing various populations together to understand the needs of individuals worldwide according to their region, their environment, the application of contact dermatitis, and photodermatology in their lives,” she added.
Dr Jerajani added, “Mangalore and Manipal are indeed a great force in education and education on subjects such as contact dermatitis and photodermatology must be transferred to achieve better knowledge among one another through such symposiums.”
She also profoundly appreciated the organizer of the workshop and symposium Ramesh Bhat.
Dr Chembolli Lakshmi, professor, PSG Medical College, Coimbatore, said, “Focus meets importance in perpetuating learning and such workshops and symposiums instigate better wisdom.”
Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa said, “During the NAC assessment, the assessors stressed whether college has contributed towards society.If good work is done by a person, it is measured by his or her contribution towards the work. Likewise, this symposium should contribute towards better understanding among the students.”
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, Fr Muller Medical College, said, “Earlier, babies would be taken out in the sunlight for Vitamin D, but nowadays there is a very holistic approach to health and thus, this workshop and symposium will provide insights into the same.”
After the inauguration ceremony, in memory of one of the pioneers of the institute Dr J N Shetty, the third memorial oration was held. The oration was conducted by Dr Ganesh S Pai, medical director, Derma-care Skin and Cosmetology Centre.
Dr Pai took the audience through a presentation titled ‘A Slice of Life’ that covered topics such as smile, emotional spiral scale, social responsibility, social activism and transformation from clinical dermatology to laser dermatology. He also shared his well-written articles published in various newspapers.
With regards to Dr J N Shetty he said, “If you are looking for a monument look around for what you have created. Be noble and smile.”
At the end of the presentation, Dr Pai was felicitated by all the delegates on the dais.
Kaushal Verma, professor, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Shrutakirti, KMC, Manipal, Dr Nandakishore, FMMC, and Dr Jacintha Martis from FMMC, were among the other delegates present.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Ramesh Bhat, organizer of the workshop and symposium.
