Karkala, Sep 18: Karkala police have succeeded in arresting three accused in the Mahalaxmi Gold Workshop robbery case in Mahalaxmi lane. The robbers, on Tuesday September 17 night, had looted gold weighing 1.4 kg by throwing chilli powder into the eyes of the owner.

Ramachandra Mane

The police arrested the main accused Muniyalu Mudhukar Achary and seized the stolen gold ornaments, a Santro car and a sharp weapon said to have been used for the robbery, and also a mobile phone.

Kundapur’s Shahid and Koni Chandrahasa have also been arrested. Mohan Shushanth from Ampar and Prashanth are said to be absconding.

The theft had occurred at Mahalaxmi Gold works in Pai building behind Karnataka Jewellers in Karkala town. Shop owner Ramachandra Anand Rao Mane (38) was about to close the shop when two youths approached him and asked about a gold chain. They then threw chilli powder on his eyes and carried out the robbery before fleeing the place.

Locals informed that the robbers had dashed their car against the walls in the lane in their anxiety to escape. Police informed the control room who imposed nakabandi in the district.  When the thieves reached Attur and Hiriadka Veerabhadra temple via Palli marga, police team led by Hiriadka station head Manjula was able to stop the Santro car.

It is said that the thieves had dreams of leading a luxurious life and had consumed excessive liquor at a bar near Ananthashayana before committing the act.

Ramachandra Ananda Rao Mane had come to Karkala in 1995.  He opened a jewellery shop by the name 'Vittal' a little away from his jewellery workshop and handed it over its management to his sister’s husband Praveen. Praveen had gone to Sangli for Ganesh Chathurthi and the responsibility of both the shops fell on the shoulders of Ramachandra Ananda Rao Mane.  As there is no secure safe in Vittala Jewellers, he had planned to take the jewellery first to his workshop and then to his residence for safe keeping. That is when the robbery took place.

Karkala, Sep 18: The Karkala police on Tuesday September 17 night foiled a major robbery bid and arrested one person and seized one kg of gold.

The robbery took place at Mahalaxmi gold workshop. The arrested man has been identified as Madhukar Achary, a resident of Muniyalu.

It is said that when the store was about to be closed, five unidentified men came in a Scorpio car. Two of the persons approached Ramachandra Ananda Mane, who was closing the shop and one of them asked him if the gold ornaments ordered by 'Dinesh' were ready. Not recalling any such order, the Mane stood confused for a minute. Seizing the opportunity, the other accused threw chilli powder at him and snatched away the gold and Rs 40,000 in cash which was with him. The miscreants then fled the place.

The police who were immediately alerted swung into action and began a hunt for the car. A nakabandi was put in place and finally, the Hiriadka police managed to intercept the car.

Even as the car was stopped by the police, the accused again brandished weapons, and four of the five people managed to escape while one was caught.

The police recovered one kg of gold from the accused and also seized the Scopio car.

Karkala town police have registered a case. A hunt for the absconding accused is on.

No one speaks about Moodabidri Jain Basadi theft including Mr Abayachandra. All the robbers, including the jeweler were caught. Still unable to recover the idol. The thieves are related to congress leader Motithilal Vora. Hence the investigation has come to a halt.

    Leave them. Culprits are innocent.
Let Siddu Government made some provision for youths in way to earn their bread.
Congress government only afford to provide only 'Half-Roti' from last sixty-five years...
For that reason to gain remaining 'Half-Roti'..they entered the shop...!!
Without knowing the truth don't accuse anybody..it's not there fault...Jai Ho..

Dear Police dept..You can't catch present day robbers with laathi..You have to carry pistols. You could have caught all 5 accused,if you had pistols despite vigorous resistance from them..

Dear Siddu sir..first provide our police dept good weapons to fight before ordering 4,600 buses and introducing bullet and mono rail.It costs very very small infront of bullet train project..

    Mr.Avil.
1.BJP didn't promise Bullet train and Mono rail..

2.BJP didn't order 4,600 buses (when our roads are unfit to walk,Siddu sir must have promised good road first and not 4,600 buses)

3.Under BJP Govt..Robbers didn't threaten brandishing weapons..Open challenge to police dept !! So,at least in future,Siddu must save his face by providing good weapons to Police dept.

    1. Bought specialized equipments for mining
    2. Bought trucks for transporting minerals illegally and spoiled / damaged most of the roads in Karnataka.
    3. Forget any government or their ministers. First you challenge the police or police dept. You will automatically feel the heat of their lathi.....!!!!
