Chennai, Sep 20 (IANS): The global market prospects for waste water treatment plants looks bright as there is need for them in developing countries and the plants in developed countries are ageing, says a Frost & Sullivan research report.

In a statement issued Friday, the consultancy firm said: "The waste water aeration systems market is in various stages of development across the world. Considered highly reliable technology, the aeration systems will see increased global uptake, due to the demand for wider connectivity to secondary wastewater treatment services in developing regions.

"The need to revamp the extensive installed base in developed countries increases additional demand."

According to Frost & Sullivan, the global waste water aeration systems market earned revenues of $4.88 billion in 2011 and it is expected to touch $8.39 billion in 2020.

"The high energy intensity of aeration will encourage greater innovation and competitiveness in the market; while, it opens itself to the threat of alternative technologies that enable energy recovery," the firm said.

According to Frost & Sullivan, energy-efficient performance will, therefore, be a key consideration in equipment and technology selection. Other important selection indices will be price, technology and reliability.

In India, the pollution control board have now regulated the discharge of waste water. thereby creating opportunities for secondary waste water treatment systems.

"It is estimated that 60 percent of the industrial effluent and approximately 30-35 percent of the sewage undergoes treatment before discharge in India," the report said.
