States should crack down on elements fanning communal strife: PM

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday asked parties to refrain from taking advantage out of communal strife and said states should crackdown on elements fanning such violence irrespective of their political affiliations or influence.

Underlining that the onus for preventing communal violence lies with the states, he said effective steps should be taken by the administration to ensure that small issues don't snowball into a big controversy.

"The state government should lose no time to control communal violence sternly. The local administration should prevent a small issue from snowballing into a huge controversy and arrest those responsible for spreading it," Singh said inaugurating the 16th National Integration Council meeting here.

"The state should use all means at its disposal to punish those guilty for fanning communal violence and ensure a speedy crackdown on such elements irrespective of their political affiliations or influence," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said the meeting assumes significance as it was being held in the aftermath of communal clashes in Muzzafarnagar which claimed nearly 50 lives and damaged property worth lakhs of crores of rupees.

He said the country had witnessed communal clashes recently in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir, Nawada area of Bihar, Hyderabad and most importantly Uttar Pradesh which has seen an increase in these incidents in the past few months.

"At times, the anti-national forces succeed in creating a communal divide between various sections of people and such forces are a big challenge for the democracy of this country," the Prime Minister said and called for effective handling of such forces with an iron hand.

He said the state governments should make it clear to its officials that "carelessness will not be tolerated" whenever communal tension takes places in their area of jurisdiction.

"They (officials) are answerable in case of any communal tension or violence," he said.

    Dear Mr. Srinivas Shetty, Udupi,

WHY THE BJP HEADED BY NDA ALLOWED THE PLANE TO FLEW FROM JALANDHAR/FROM INDIAN SOIL TO KANDAHAR?! WITHOUT STORMING?! THAT WAS A BLUNDER.
    YOUR THIRD POINT:
CONGRESS WAS NOT RULING DURING THE TIME OF MUFTI MOHAMMAD SAYED'S DAUGHTER WAS ABDUCTED.

AND FOR YOUR KIND INFORMATION IF THE BJP NDA IS RULING THEY WILL CERTAINLY SELL INDIA TO PAKISTAN AND THALIBAN.

WHAT A SHAME ON BJP TO RELEASE TERRORISTS ESCORTED BY YOUR FOREIGN MINISTER JASWANT SINGH.
Three hard core terrorists plus 36 other prisoners/terrorists plus thousands of dollars given to taliban.

CONGRESS NEVER RELEASED ANY TERRORISTS TO ANY COUNTRY IN THE HISTORY OF ITS RULING.
    WHAT A SHAME.

Govt agreed to send terrorists Kandahar based on the following,

    1. India had no diplomatic relations with then Taliban Govt of Afghanistan. Taliban forces had surrounded the hijacked plane just to avoid any commando action from India.
2.Indian Govt gave up to the demand of relatives of people who were under hostage. Those relative shouted at Mr. Jaswanth Singh, the then Foreign Affairs Minister, saying that “Give them Kashmir if they want, but we need our relatives back”. Those relatives abused widow of a Air Force Officer when she said that there should be no negotiations with hijackers
3.The Congress/PDP Govt of J&K had released a terrorist in exchange to kidnapped daughter of a PDP leader in 1990s. The relatives used this as strong base to pressurize the central govt.
Govt. had no option but to negotiate. Read history before splitting venom here.

I can understand that when one is ignorant they make wild guesses like these. Anyway, I do not get my education only from the internet. Being well educated I know how and where to access authentic information. I am knowledgeable enough to know that there is a lot of crap also on the internet from which Pheku worshippers and Chhadi followers get their information and basic education. Why dont they get a proper education now that the 'Right to Education' act is in force ?

At last I notice 'Fernandes' is spelt with a capital 'F' unlike before.

Sunil D'Souza, your comment suggests that there is no limit to your ignorance. Please note that Dr.Manmohan Singh was not even in politics when he was requested by Mr. Narasimha Rao to come and take over as Finance Minister in 1991. That was the time when India was on its knees and on the verge of bankruptcy. He was the one who transformed India and set it on the path of growth. You may hate him due to your ignorance, but you cannot take away what he did for the country.Look back into the pages of history from 1990 and track India's economic growth chart before opening your mouth and trying to repeat another one of feku's songs.

MMS is a great economist, no doubt. But unfortunately SONIONOMICS is running the nation, thats why we see this today. He is running a cabinet which is not in his control at all but takes orders only from 10 Janpath. Only lootmasters who give proper kickbacks get promoted in Khangress. That's why he is taunted as a MUTE pm who cannot check the corruption in his team. Your congress has spoilt the reputation of few left good men like MMS in the party.

Taken power transfer from BJP when economy growing at 8.6% enjoyed benefits for few years of BJP's good work after this corruption and mismanagement it come down to 4.8%. Now tell me who is ignorant. Congress did not knew that he was good economist but poor politician. Politicians will not mature in country like ours in 10-15 years. That is the reason Sonia Amul boy are facing problem.

Relax, PM dint call for any Debate for NaMO to run away. HE just called a meeting to say the same old statement the congress is making since 60 years that communal harmony is important but at the same time instigating one community over another by giving privileges & reservations just to seize their vote bank. Modi Absence will not make India any worst than what we are facing now under the corrupt communal Govt. Instead he spend some time in the betterment of Gujrath or some other usefull work.

    Dear Mr. Sudhakar, Kallianpur,

The Prime Minister has generally told to act swiftly to punish whoever incites violence and you know very well who incites violence.

Whichever government rules in the states and whichever party rules in the states, the bjp is a crooked party. In their minds the communal seeds are sprouted during their birth itself.

We have to love each and every citizen not only in India but all over the world.

If you love others as you love yourself is there any bitterness, crime, robbery, terrorism, killing???.

    The problem is Communal.

Mr.PM you have no moral right to talk about riots. Congress Party instigated the 1984 anti-Sikhs riots in which more than 7500 died in 1984. Your leaders Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler personally led mobs that did the killing and burning. And today you are voicing because of your vote bank?
why no action taken against azam khan and his associates, who are primarily responsbile for the riots and all other riots in the state for last 2 years.
