Chikmagalur, Oct 1: The Konkani Rakan sanchalan, Chikmagalur in collaboration with Jagotik Konknni Songhotton and Mandd Sobhan organized Konkani Utsav at Maria auditorium of Magundi church recently.

As part of the celebration, ‘Konkani Niyal’ programme was rendered by Vishwa Konkani Kalaratna Eric Ozario and his team.

Eriz Ozario spoke on Konkani Niyal and Ten Commandments of Konkani, and also on the heritage of Konkani language, literature and its culture. He said elders should speak to their children in Konkani language and should also teach them to read and write 'if we have to protect our language'.

To protect the language, along with teaching Konkani, the mass should also be offered in Konkani. In churches which do not have Konkani mass, Ozario said we have to work towards it.

The talk was followed by a formal stage programme where honorary president Cyril Rebello said "It is a sad thing taking place in Chikmagalur diocese that even after having many Konkani people, we are lagging in offering Konkani mass and asked people to work for it."

Konkani Rakan Sanchalan president Pramod Pinto presided over the function.

Magundi unit president Victor Lobo, vice president Dayan Lobo, Faustine Pereira, Silvester Saldanha, Stany D’Souza, Joachim D’Souza among others were present.

On the occasion, education help in terms of money was given to 30 students after which Monti feast was celebrated together.
