IPS Ranjit Sahay succumbs to burns in Mumbai

Senior IPS officer Ranjit Sahay, who was hospitalised with severe burns after he allegedly attempted suicide at his residence, today succumbed to his injuries here.

Additional Director General of Police (Police Housing) Sahay suffered a partial loss of kidney function and was battling for life due to "extremely critical health conditions since a few days," a police officer told PTI.

"Sahay breathed his last this morning at the Bombay Hospital," he said.

The 52-year-old officer had allegedly attempted suicide at his Malabar Hill residence by setting self on fire on September 15, police said.

The police could not record the statement of Sahay in connection with the case due to his bad health, and hence the motive behind the extreme step remains a mystery now.

Sahay was in the news when he recently submitted an inquiry report detailing alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) during the tenure of its former chief, Deepak Kapoor, an IAS officer of 1991 batch.
