Mumbai, Oct 9: “Sportsmanship is essential in tourneys and not the results. The organizing rural sports are commendable in metro. Kabaddi deserves support from government. As a sportsman I have encouraged people by granting funds for 27 sports meets. You got to lay emphasis on sports,” said Brahanmumbai Mahanagara Palika (BMC) mayor Sunil Prabhu.
Chief guest Prabhu addressed during the valedictory function of Kabaddi and throw ball tournament – 2013 that was organized by Mulund Bunts at RPF grounds, Mulund (East) here on Tuesday October 8.
Bombay Bunts Sangh vice president Karnire Vishwanat Shetty presided over the programme that was held at Professor Sitaram R Shetty memorial stage. Professor Shetty who passed away recently was the mentor of Mulund Friends.
The local MLA Sardar Tara Singh, political leader Jayaprakash Shetty, entrepreneur Ashwin Shah, social activists L V Amin, Prabhakar Hegde, chartered accountant Jagdish Shetty, Sudhakar Shetty Beltangady, Ratnakar Shetty Mundkoor, Shiva Mudigere and others were the guests of honour present on the occasion.
Karnire Vishwanat in his presidential address wished for such games to be held year after year, which give an opportunity to development bond with fellow sportsman.
Yaksha Manasa president Shekar R Shetty offered motion for tournament here on Tuesday morning.
Entrepreneur Ashok M Kotian, Kabaddi player Jaya A Shetty, senior journalist Chandrashekar Palettady, Kutpady Ramachandra M Ganiga, Satyavan Dalvi and others were the chief guests of the occasion.
A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament this year. In the finals, Red Bulls won the trophy by defeating Matultim Devadiga team. Ten teams participated in the women’s throw ball tourney that was organized for the first time in this year. Tulu Koota Dombivali won the trophy despite the superb show by Mumbai Mogaveer team.
