Chittagong, Oct 10: Hello, and a warm welcome to Day 2 of the 1st Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh. Kane Williamson scored a superb hundred to put the visitors in command before late strikes helped Bangladesh fightback. New Zealand ended the day at 280/5 with Williamson making 114 and Peter Fulton chipping in with 73. With two new batsmen in, Bangladesh will fancy themselves to restrict the viositors to a modest first innings score.

Earlier on day 1, good comeback by Bangladesh towards the end of the day. Their spinners struck with the second new ball with 2 massive wickets to peg New Zealand back. Williamson played well for his 4th Test century and he was ably supported by Fulton. Taylor was beginning to look comfortable at the crease, but got out to a poor shot. Razzak was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets and Gazi also kept it tight at the other end.

Day 1 - match news:

Kane Williamson’s century helped New Zealand cruise to 280-5 against Bangladesh on the first day of the first Test on Wednesday.

Williamson made his 114 facing 210 balls before he was trapped lbw by Shakib Al Hasan in the day’s second-to-last over. When captain Brendon McCullum also fell lbw in the last over to Abdur Razzak, the umpires ended a day in which Bangladesh struggled but finished in style.

Bangladesh took three wickets in the last session to clamber back into the Test, reward for tighter bowling.

Until the last two overs, however, New Zealand dominated after winning the toss, with opener Peter Fulton collecting 73.

Razzak toiled for 2-100.
