Canada, Oct 14: Radio Mango, the first ever Konkani channel that created history in North American hemisphere by broadcasting Konkani programme last year has completed a glorious one year. Undoubtedly that was a red-letter-day for the Konkani Diaspora and it was a matter of pride and immense joy for thousands of Konkani speaking people residing in Canada when they eagerly tuned to Radio Mango at FM 101.3 for the first ever Konkani programme and heard Milena Marques-Zachariah and her co-host Wilson D'Souza's greetings "Tumkan soggleank - Konkani bhas uloiteank - Dev Bori Saanz dium” on September 29, 2012.

It’s a great feeling when you give birth to a great idea and the feeling becomes even stronger as you start nurturing it, watching it grow slowly, but surely. Making sure everything goes right so that one day it can stand tall and proud. Yes, Radio Mango has taken its first step towards carving a tiny but significant niche for itself in the world of entertainment. Kudos to Milena, Alan, Pedro and Wilson who are proud of their beloved offspring have succeeded in taking this project to a way higher level than expected through their tremendous selfless dedication and hard-work. Through this one and only Konkani Radio broadcast in the Western and Northern hemispheres they have succeeded in bringing joy into countless homes. Not just here in Canada, but in the USA, India, England, Germany, Dubai, Pakistan and even as far as Australia.

Every broadcast on Radio Mango starts with an awesome Signature tune composed by Goa's renowned musician and lyricist Lawrence de Tiracol and ends with sweet and juicy greetings by the brain and brawn of this Konkani Radio broadcast who is none other than Milena Marques-Zachariah. The programme started with an hour long Konkani entertainment with Goan/Mangalorean Konkani songs, interviews with great Konkani personalities in Canada and Goan/Mangalorean news, now because of the faithful listeners the programme runs for two hours, a remarkable achievement indeed!

Apart from Milena, Alan, Pedro and Wilson the great Konkani artistes like Marshall Fernandes, Jr Menezes, Manohar Pais, Francis Fernandes Cascia, Santhosh D’Souza and Ronald Monteiro too have contributed for the success of the Radio by showcasing their talents on regular intervals. Hats off to all the generous sponsors who helped financially to run the show week after week. The highlight of the programme was an interview by Milena and Wilson with eminent Konkani personality Goa’s Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza.

In order to celebrate this milestone ‘Radio Mango Mania’ programme has been arranged at the Versailles Convention Centre, Mississauga on Friday October 18th, 2013 at 6.30 on. A power-packed entertainment programme has been arranged. Renowned Goan and Mangalorean artistes like Marshal Fernandes, Flavian Pinto, Manohar Pais, Santhosh D’Souza, Ronald and Sonia Monteiro are going to entertain the guests with nostalgic Konkani songs, rib-tickling jokes and traditional dances. Making sure Konkani rocks all night Canada’s foremost band The Goa Amigos will be in action together with a DJ, plus tone of prizes and surprises! Undoubtedly it’s going to be an amazing night to remember.

Well written report by Gerry Baab.

I heard the full recording of 53rd Radio Mango Show and make no mistake its a pleasure to listen to RJ Milena. I guess she is a Goan but she seems to be much at home with Mangies. Good, keep it up ma’am. Hope you will continue lending your great soulful voice to this show and elsewhere.

Also immensely enjoyed interview with Rony Fernandes. Wishing him good going.

But that’s just not the product. A lot of work is involved in making this show made and aired. I wish all the good to all the people associated. Thanks and all the best to the anniversary.
