Mangalore, Oct 19: “Maharishi Valmiki was a role model to the society and is relevant in the present society,” said Moideen Bhava.

He was addressing after inaugurating the Shri Maharishi Valmiki Birth Anniversary. The programme was organized by Dakshina Kannada Panchayat, Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department, Kannada and Cultural Department and Dakshina Kannada Valmiki Nayaka Association held at Nethravathi Convention hall Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat.

Dr Hanuma Nayak, History professor, Mangalore University in his address said, “Ramanaya is a great epic of India. Ramayana was composed by the great sage Valmiki. In the earlier phase, Valmiki was a cruel hunter but later turned into great sage due to his hard penance. Ramayana is a story that teaches various responsibilities in each (Kandas) chapter. Valmiki’s Ramayana which was written is also relevant today.” 

J R Lobo in his presidential address said, “Ramayana teaches about good administration. Every instance of Ramayana is still relevant today. The prominent characters of Ramanaya are not from upper class. It is not only important to one community but to the whole world.”

Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, ZP CEO Tulasi Madineni, additional DC Dayanand, Shabeer Hameed Mulla, Umesh, Chandrahas B Rai, Hallapesh were present on the occasion.
