Kasargod: Police arrest two for illegal transport of liquor

Kasargod, Oct 20: Police on Saturday October 19 arrested two persons for illegally transporting liquor in an auto.

The arrested are identified as Battampare resident Premjith(27) and Nellinkunje resident Umesh(21).

As many as 560 bottles of liquor were being transported by auto on October 13 from Thayalangadi here. When the police stopped the auto, the two had fled leaving behind the auto. When the auto was inspected the expensive liquor was found in it. The liquor bottles were found in two gunny bags and kept in the auto's boot.

The liquor was brought from Goa to Kasargod by train and then transported by other vehicles. Premjith used to bring the liquor till Kasargod twice a week and transport further by Umesh’s auto to various other places. Investigations have revealed that liquor was brought like this several times in the past. 

The arrested have admitted that the liquor used to be distributed to bars illegally operating in Madhur and Nellikunje, say the police.
