Grandma's advice ends in young girl's suicide at Belman

Karkala, Oct 22: A tragic incident where the advice of the grandmother ended in the suicide of the granddaughter occurred at Indaru near Belman on Monday, October 21.

Sujaya (12), a 6th standard student at St Joseph Higher Primary School, Belman is the deceased.

It is said that when there were no elders at home, Sujaya's grandmother Kusuma advised her not to speak to her friends. Sujaya who took offence at the advice, poured kerosene on her and committed suicide by self-immolation.

A case has been registered in the rural police station based on a complaint.  Post-mortem was conducted in KMC hospital.

    The girl is not alive to say anything on this case. Do you think she will commit suicide just on a advise of grand mother on not speaking to her friends?.

    this is just the result of our youth's thought process. I feel we are far away on this issue and unless something real difference is brought in, I see our youth are already on wrong path. Some times, parents will be finding it difficult to manage. For example, in the above case, there must be definitely a reason for herGrand ma to stop her from doing that. Just because her grand mother stopped her... it's not justifiable that she took this extreme step... this is a clear evidence which direction our youth is going ...

    @Bharathesh Mangalore,here we are fare away from the truth.Just a thirteen year old Girl is not in a Situation such horrible act to take .children in this Age sure have fear against fire.and when then they may under go a suecide by jumping in well or hanging .but to fire ,she should prepare that.where were their grandma or aunt?Here something had gone wrong .to cover it poured benzin and gave fire so that no one can recognize I suppose.Excuse Looks also very suspicious.poor Girl,RIP:

    I agree with you Rita. But now a days youth are not as we were those days, fear of parents , grand parents and all. There are so many instances now a days. Couple of weeks back 3 young girls or 6th standard walked away from home catching a bus to some outstation (Hubli) just with a reason that they had less marks in their exams and they were scared that parents will scold them. Don't you think it's too small reason to take sucha drastic step of leaving family , parents , their home town and catching a bus to Bubli ... Lot of suicide cases in and around Mangalore, especially by youth for reasons which are very silly. Remember a girl committed suicide when her mother rejected to give her a huge amount she was asking for... she was asking 2500 rupees for her drugs. If mother gives themoney she will go anybuy drugs. Knowing this mother said NO. this girl ( matured young girl ) went inside the room and hanged herself... remember the instance... So, I mentioned that it's very sensitive situation...
