Melbourne, Mar 23: Rajyavaradan Singh Rathore took a sweet revenge over his former coach Russell Mark of Australia to retain the gold in individual double trap shooting event at the 18th Commonwealth games here on Thursday.

The Olympics silver medallist Indian Armyman, who had lost the team gold to Mark and had to be content with the second place finish, fired 181 (137+44) to grab the top honours at the Lilydale Ranges at the Melbourne Gun Club.

The defending champion Rathore, who was languising at third place in both the qualification and the final rounds, was patience personified as he peaked in time to clear any doubts about his abilities.

He was lagging behind England's Stevan Walton (141) and William Chetcuti of Malta (139) in the qualifying round and trailing Byron Swanton (46) and Mark (44) in the final.
