Mangalore, Mar 23: The Anti Rowdy Squad on Thursday nabbed a person who possessed a revolver without license.  The squad led by Vinay A Goankar arrested A J Mathai near President Hotel on Maidan Road here  at  noon.

A J Mathai alias Mani (44) is the son of A M John, a resident of Bangeradka House, Shibaje Village, Belthangady taluk.

The accused, during interrogation confessed that he had purchased the revolver four years back Rs 3,500 from a blacksmith at Udane for self defence. A agriculturist turned timber merchant, Mani at that times used to carry huge amount of cash and thus needed security for which he carried the revolver.

Mani who has recently quit the timber business had come to Mangalore to sell the weapon off.

Mani who was arrested by the Mangalore North PS is under investigation. The accused has been produced before JMFC II Court Mangalore and has been remanded to judicial custody till March 24.
