Belthangady, Mar 24: Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation Oscar Fernandes inaugurated the new building of Venoor Christ King Navachetana Children’s Special School here on Thursday, March 23.
Speaking on the occasion, Fernandes said that the union government has been stressing high priority to education and has earmarked 6 % of its income for primary education The mid-day meal scheme has covered 12 crore children and discussions are on to extend the same to students of special schools also.
Moodbidri MLA K Abhayachandra Jain who was the chief guest on the occasion assured to raise the issue during the assembly session, to providing grants to special schools of the State.
Lions district president Hillary Pereira, taluk panchayat member K Vijay Gowda, Venoor church parish committee vice president Ligory J Fernandes, Venoor Lions Club president Devappa Poojary and parish priest of Venoor Christ King church Fr James D’Souza were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion Zahir Hussain, who bagged gold medal in the national-level bicycle race, Purushotham, who prepares rubber sheets and is self employed, Pratibha Shetty, who secured gold medal in the state level yoga competition and Mumtaz, Naveen and Surhir Jain, who bagged gold medals in athletics at the Special Olympics were honoured.
