Mangalore, Mar 25: M Devadas Mallya, hailing from the city and who has served as executive director of Oriental Bank of Commerce since 2005, has been appointed chairman and managing director of the Bank of Maharashtra, a wholly-owned government of India undertaking.

The tenure is for a period of five years and he will take over the new assignment in the Pune head office on March 25.

Having begun his banking career in 1976 with Corporation Bank, he served in various departments like loans, finance management, treasury, investment, IT, international banking and many other segments and rose to the position of general manager.

In recognition of his merit, he was appointed ED of Oriental Bank of Commerce in 2005. He is an alumnus of Canara High School and the-then Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), Suratkal, now known as the National Institute of Techonolgy - Karnataka (NIT-K) at Srinivasnagar in the suburbs.
