Patna blasts toll rises to six as bomber dies

Patna, Oct 28 (IANS): The toll in the serial blasts in the Bihar capital went up to six following the death of a bomber who was seriously injured in an explosion while setting up a bomb, an official said Monday.

"A suspected accused (who was) seriously injured in bomb explosion while fitting a timer at Patna railway junction died late Sunday night," Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said.

Officials at Patna Medical College and Hospital, where 83 injured in serial blasts were admitted Sunday, said that at present 38 are undergoing treatment.

Five are in critical condition and others have been discharged, officials said.

Security was tightened in the city a day after six bombs exploded in and around the Gandhi Maidan where Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addressed a rally hours later and a blast took place at the railway station.

Additional security forces have been deployed at all important places including crowded markets to instil a sense of confidence among local people, who panicked after the serial blasts, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) S.K. Bharadwaj said.

He said that the attack was the first in the history of Patna.

Maharaj said that National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, which has begun probing into the serial blast, Monday sealed the Gandhi Maidan.

The NIA team hopes to collect more evidence from the ground.

Another senior police official said that a total of 13 suspected people have been detained including a seriously injured youth from the ground after serial blasts.

"All of them have been interrogated by the Bihar police, NIA and IB officials," he said.

The first of the supposedly low intensity blasts ripped through a toilet at around 10 a.m. at the newly built Platform 10 of the railway station in the heart of the city, killing one person and wounding another.

After an hour, by which time Modi had reached Patna but not the rally ground, four explosions took place inside the Gandhi Maidan, killing four others and causing a lot of panic, police and witnesses said.

The Patna railway station is located two-three kilometres from the sprawling Gandhi Maidan.

Whenever there is a bomb threat to any airlines which is about to take off, immediately it will be called off and the safety of the passengers will be ensured. Here bombs blast some hrs. before the rally and some BJP men make enquiries about the safety with some police official, who says I will let you know ,but never turns up.Not worried about the safety, the rally continues. My doubt is whether they knew that there wont be anymore blasts? Or were they not at all bothered for the safety of those thousands of people gathered only to listen some bad mouth shouting there?

Shame on this so called terrorists who try to kill innocents. Even if i dont have the highest regard for Mr. Modi, one should understand that he is running for the post of PM.You have to give him his due respect. We should not allow our country to be blackmailed by these people who think that they can alter the course of this nation by doing bomb blasts. Let us have free and fair elections. And those who dont believe in such elections should move to our neighbouring country as soon as possible.

A good job to nab the terrorists with such swiftness. But Nitish Kumar's Government will have to pay heavily for not taking adequate tep in time to avert these blasts which could have been done before the terrorists succeeded in planting the bombs. Now this will put the efforts of Congress to woo the JDU on shelf- at least for the time being and further strengthening the chances of BJP to emerge as the leading party with possibility of forming the Government

A country where soina cries at the encounter of terrorists, Home minister calls Terrorist Dawood as Shri Dawood Ibrahim ji inside parliament, as if he is his damad? Diggy keeps questioning the authenticity of batla encounter where we lost a brave special cell officer and Dogvijay calling Hafiz Sayeed as Hafiz Sayeed Sahab and all these people run the country, what can be expected? ????????????

We have no expectations from our Hon'ble Home minister in any case. Let him attend 'Music Launches' or
    'Boat Launches'.
Why should the innocent die on the road?
    Please no politics here please.
Latest reports suggest that there was an 'intelligence input' of a possible terrorist attack during this rally. If so, then it's a serious security lapse on part of the Bihar Government. The CM should own responsibility and at least apologize. Not try to score political points over the issue.
Innocents die on the road and
    political parties make merry...Shee..Chee..Thu....

During Bomb Blast..Sushilkumar enjoying inaugration of a new released film. Somebody even blamed on RSS..eventhough Imitaz claimed he belongs to Indian Mujhadeen. It looks like Rahulbaba is active with ISI and all other ministers from the congress government are involved with Indian Mujhadeen as well as Naxalites...to defame sangh parivar. Eventhough so many blasts..crowd appeared around seven lakhs to witness speech of Shri Narendra Modiji. Why did Shotgun mixing with Modiji as he is strong supporter of Advaniji. Do Nitish Kumar ever succeed in Bihar without BJP.. Jai Ho..

All these "secular" vote bank politicians should be TAUGHT a LESSON, they are indulging in anti-India activities by supporting terrorists for electoral gains.......

The BJP has criticized Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for attending a film related event in Mumbai on Sunday, even after the serial blasts at the site of Narendra Modi's rally in Patna, which killed six people and injured over 80.

On Sunday evening, Mr Shinde kept his date with the makers of the Hindi film Rajjo, which has reportedly been directed by a man from his village. During the 45-minute event at a luxury hotel, the Home Minister launched the film's music and also posed for photo-ops with its lead star Kangana Ranaut.

Mr Shinde faced a barrage of questions as soon as he left the function, and justified not changing his plans over the blasts. He said he had immediately sent crack investigating teams to the spot and was in regular touch with his officials.
