Panaji, Mar 26: Goa's civic bodies will now have garbage disposal plants and all the garbage generated in this tourist state would be treated locally, stated urban development minister Joaquim Alemao.

After being grilled by the opposition on all fronts over the dumping of garbage, the state urban development ministry feels that it is responsibility of respective municipalities to treat their own garbage.

The opposition benches today grilled urban development minister over garbage issue. "Everywhere garbage disposal plants are being opposed. To solve this confusion, it is decided to install plants in all the municipalities to treat garbage locally," Alemao said replying to volley of questions.

On the last day of the state legislative assembly session today, the opposition benches grilled the government over their inability to dispose of garbage and objections raised by Goa state pollution control board to the government identified garbage disposal sites.

"The state government has to be firm as plastic bags are flying everywhere. Everyday municipal trucks dump garbage at the roadside," stated leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar.

Other opposition members also joined Parrikar in verbally attacking Alemao stating that state government is not able to find out land for garbage disposal as they are succumbing to the pressures of builders who are grabbing the plots.

Alemao, refusing that the government was under any kind of pressures, stated that one of the municipality has approached the high court and HC has already given instruction to pollution control board in this regard.
