Udupi, Mar 26: Persons coming to visit places of tourist attractions here may not always have holy intentions. Santosh Kumar Shetty, a car driver from Katipalla in Mangalore learnt this bitter truth with distress on Thursday.
A person claiming to be Jai Singh and hailing from Uttaranchal hired a Innova car of value Rs 8.5 lac from Shetty earlier during the week. From Mangalore, the car was taken to Madikeri, Mysore, Ooty and other places and they returned the soon after.
On Mar 23, the person engaged the car again and they arrived here. He is said to have taken Shetty to a hotel room and made him accept soft drink. It had a sleep-inducing effect and in the meantime, the stranger reportedly vanished with the car.
Shetty has filed a complaint in this regard with the town police station here.
