New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will hold a two-day national conference on public healthcare from Nov 5, a panel member said Tuesday.
"The conference is an effort to discuss ways in which the public health system could be strengthened with regard to accessibility, affordability and quality of healthcare," said NHRC member S.C Sinha.
The conference will also discuss problems related to women and children issues, occupational health diseases and improving healthcare in terms of clean water, hygiene and sanitation.
"We are organising this as there is a need not only for better health delivery, through institutional change, but also for devoting much more resources, as a proportion of the GDP, to public expenditure on health," added Sinha.
Health professionals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, health secretaries from across the country and several NGOs working towards health will also be part of the conference.
