Kashmir Valley gets season's first snowfall


Srinagar, Oct 31 (IANS): The higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, including Gulmarg ski resort, received the season's first snowfall Thursday. The weather office has forecast a dry and pleasant weather during the next six days.

Sonam Lotus, director of the weather office here, told IANS: "From tomorrow till Nov 5, the weather would remain dry and pleasant in the valley, although mornings and evenings would be cold."

"The night temperatures will not fall further during this period."

The minimum temperature was 4.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar Thursday, while it was 1.4 in Pahalgam, minus 0.2 in Gulmarg, 2.0 in Kargil and minus 1.8 degrees Celsius in Leh town of Ladakh region.

The minimum temperature was 16.6 degrees Celsius in Jammu city in the southern region of the state Thursday.

Lotus said the minimum temperatures are likely to rise during the next six days which would be comparatively warmer.
