Mangalore, Mar 27: A fight between drunkards culminated in the death of one of them as others killed him near Hotel Shalimar here in the city in the small hours of Monday March 27.

The murdered has been identified as Krishnanand (45) of Tamil Nadu origin.  He was sleeping near Hotel Shalimar on Monday night as usual along with few of his companions.  The police sources said that many daily-wage workers sleep near Hotel Shalimar every night.

On Tuesday morning around 2 am, Krishnanand picked up a fight with others.  Since all were under the influence of alcohol, the verbal fight soon ended up in physical assault.  Krishnanand was first assaulted with hands and later 2 of them hit him with stones.  When he tried to flee the place, the duo hit him with stones in his head.

As a result, Krishnanand sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Wenlock Hospital.  However, he succumbed to injuries on Monday morning.

Though it has been established that Krishnanand hailed from Tamil Nadu, details about his family are not known.  A few of them who have seen him for some time now said that he was a coolie worker.  But most of his earnings were spent on alcohol.

In the meantime, no details are available about the murderers as well since, they too are daily-wage workers who sleep in different places each day.

The Bunder police have now booked a case in this matter after a complaint lodged by one Pandappa Lingappa Tigari of Haveri district.  Police are trying to get more information about the killers from him.
