Bangalore, Oct 31: ‘Magis’, national youth seminar will be held at St Joseph’s Boys High School, Museum Road, Bangalore from November 1 to 4.

More than 500 college students from St Xavier’s College, Mumbai; Loyola College, Chennai; St Joseph’s College, Bangalore; Mount Carmel College, Bangalore; St Aloysius College, Mangalore; St Vincent’s College, Pune; XLRI, Jamshedpur and several other colleges will take part in this seminar.

Outreach Programme on November 2

In order to enable students to develop a critical awareness and analysis of the Indian and world situation, to cultivate a deep and genuine concern for the oppressed and the marginalized and to effectively commit themselves to the task of building a new and just society, the participants of Magis Seminar will be sent in smaller groups to leprosy and beggar colonies, HIV/ Cancer hospitals, orphanages, bosco mane, home of hope, inter-religious pilgrimage, visits to the slums, etc.

Once known as the ‘Garden City of India,’ in recent years Bangalore has emerged as India’s ‘Asthama Capital’. Studies reveal that nearly one-third of cities children suffer from asthma or other respiratory problems due to the air pollution caused mainly by vehicle and industrial emission. Secondly, traffic rule violations have become the order of the day in many parts of Bangalore. Apart from drunken and reckless driving, running a red light, passing in a no passing zone, not stopping for pedestrians and school buses, people don’t even show a basic courtesy of stopping for ambulances. Unfortunately, little is being done by the government and or the public to address these issues. Unless the youth of this nation are proactively involved, we cannot expect positive changes to take place in addressing such issues. In this context, traffic rules awareness and eco- drive is organized for the participants of Magis Seminar in Bangalore. More than 500 participants of the seminar will spread awareness at nearly 30 traffic signals of Bangalore on November 3, 2013 (9 am to 12 pm).

An old proverb reads, “For your country, if you plan for a year sow paddy; if you plan for a decade plant trees; if you plan for the future, nurture youth.” Magis seminar is a humble move in this direction.
