Kerala can become hub for health tourism: Chandy

Kochi, Oct 31 (IANS): Kerala has the potential to become a hub for health tourism, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said Thursday citing availability of latest technology, medical expertise and low treatment costs in the state.

"Treatment cost in Kerala is one-tenth of the cost in other parts of the country. So, we need to develop the potential further by attracting investment and providing training to doctors and medical staff," said Chandy at the fourth edition of the Kerala Health Tourism conference here.

The chief minister added that Kerala has already done well in ayurveda and now the focus should be to emerge as a preferred "destination for affordable and best healthcare".

"Kerala Health Tourism conference will help provide a roadmap to the state to become a hub for medical value travel," said Azad Moopen, chairman, Kerala Health Tourism.
