Udupi, Mar 29: Demanding to revoke the suspension of a teacher who was accused of sexually abusing a girl student, the students of the Goliyanangady Government P U College staged a protest in front of the DC’s office here on Tuesday, March 28.

Ranga G Patagar was suspended after charges of sexually harassing a ninth standard student were leveled against him. However on Tuesday, the student community stood by him. The students gathered at the DC’s office demanding cancellation of the suspension.

The protestors who stepped forward to vouch for his decent behaviour said that the teacher has never made any sexual advances towards any student. Further, the fact that he had politely corrected his colleague for taking tuition classes is said to have created a rift between the two and the colleague resorting to tarnish his image.

In-charge Deputy commissioner R Shantharaj who received the memorandum from the students informed that a three-member committee comprising vice president of ZP  Sharada Bijur, president of Udupi taluk panchayat Shyamala Sudhakar and a member of the School Development and Betterment Committee of the college had been formed by the Udupi Zilla Panchayat to investigate into the matter.

Action will be taken according to the committees report, he assured.

The students then went to DDPI’s office and burnt the effigy of the DDPI in-charge Bhaskar Shetty who they said had falsely implicated Patagar in the case.
