Panaji, Mar 29: Another feather in the Indian Navy's cap, INS Bitra,  was commissioned at the naval jetty in Vasco here on Tuesday, Goa flag commanding officer Rear Admiral Sanjay Vadgaonkar.

INS Bitra is the second ship of type follow on class of fast attack crafts. With its ever-improved designed features, propulsion package and weaponry, it is best equipped to to guard the western coast along the Arabian sea.

The ship is fitted with modern, state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipments. At present the ship is holding the staff capacity of 4 officers and 40 sailors. The main attraction of this ship is its 30 mm crn-91 gun made by ordnance factory, Medak.

The gun holds the capacity of maximum 4000 metres and can be used against both surface and air targets.

It is a perfect blend of crew comfort and the operational preparedness. The main aim of the ship is to keep watch on the sea route piracy.
