Railways to cancel, divert some trains due to fog


New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS): The Railway ministry has decided to partially or fully cancel or divert a few trains during the coming winter season when services are often disrupted due to fog, an official release said here Monday.

It said there will be no booking for these trains during likely fog period from Dec 28 to Feb 15, 2014. There are around 20 trains that have been fully cancelled, six trains have been partially cancelled and four trains diverted.

“The Ministry of Railways has directed Zonal Railways to keep a close watch on the field situation and in case there is no fog, booking for the trains, which are proposed to be cancelled, will be started with a three-day notice with a condition that the train may be cancelled in case there is fog. The cancellation etc. of trains is being announced in advance so that travellers can plan their alternative journeys accordingly and are put to minimum inconvenience,” the release said.

The trains on the cancellation list include Howrah-Delhi Janta Express, Delhi Kotdwar Garhwal Express and New Delhi-Agra Cantt.
