Udupi, Mar 30: Hindu organizations have called for a district bundh on Thursday, March 31 in protest against the violent incidents between two communities in Bhatkal.
Several rumours are making rounds and mischievous elements seem to be spreading false rumours just to fan communal passions.
Unconfirmed reports spoke of a possible casualty during disturbances in Bhatkal on Wednesday, which created tension in this district.
Peace-loving citizens here wondered what purposed would be served by bringing life to standstill for incidents that took place elsewhere.
A few political observers have attributed the developments to the changed political equations at the state-level.
Police sources said that since trouble was anticipated during the bundh, all possible precautionary measures are being taken by the district administration. An official, under condition of anonymity, expressed concern over the Udupi deputy commissioner's post still remaining vacant at crucial times like this.
