Srinagar, Nov 7: Two police personnel were killed while patrolling in Pulwama, by unidentified assailants suspected to be terrorists, a day  prior to Rahul Gandhi's visit to the area today. The deceased police personnel belong to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and were killed on the spot as an unknown number of assailants fired from a distance and atop a motorcycle.

The incident took place in a marketplace near a major army installation and has been confirmed to be heavy firing. Search operations have been initiated to ensure no re-infiltration of militants takes place again. While the militants fled the scene immediately the police are looking into the type of weapons used and finding out the identities of those responsible.

Having occurred near the Srinagar- Jammu national highway the incident has caused disturbance intraffic movement in the area. While no terrorist group has taken up responsibility, terror attacks seem to have escalated in the area within the last 6 months two civilians being injured in August and over 9 people getting killed in September.
