Udupi, Nov 8: In a miraculous incident, a baby that was born in the sixth month of pregnancy and who the doctors had declared as dead, was found to be alive just before it was to be buried.
A pregnant woman, identified as Manjula along with her husband Nagaraj from Bellary district, working in a quarry at Bantakal near Shirva, had gone for a checkup to a private hospital.
The woman who was six months pregnant developed sudden pains in the stomach and hence went to the toilet, where she gave birth to a baby.
As she delivered a premature baby three months earlier than the due date, doctors said that it was a rear incident and asked the couple to take the baby to Manipal hospital. The baby was taken to Manipal and during preliminary checkup, the doctors confirmed that the baby was dead.
The baby was then wrapped in a cloth and was taken to crematorium. Over there, when the father of the child removed the cloth to see the baby for one last time, he noticed that the baby was breathing. Shocked, the father admitted the mother and baby to district hospital for women and children.
The mother is said to be healthy. As the baby’s 'rebirth' was a miracle and it weighed only 760 grams, the condition of the baby till Thursday night was critical, said hospital sources.
