Punjab proposes airport near Jalandhar

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (IANS): The Punjab government proposes to build a domestic airport at Adampur near Jalandhar, a senior functionary said Friday.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the new airport would help the people of Punjab's Doaba belt (the region between Sutlej and Beas rivers), especially non-resident Indians (NRIs).

Badal was speaking after laying foundation stones of various development works in Jalandhar, 160 km from here.

He said the blueprint for the new airport has been prepared, and the state government is in touch with the union ministry for civil aviation for necessary approvals.

Adampur, 20 km from Jalandhar, has a frontline Indian Air Force (IAF) base. It is located just over 100 km from the Pakistan border.
