Mumbai, Nov 9 (IANS): Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla arrived in Mumbai Friday evening on their three-day visit to Maharashtra, official sources said.
The royal couple checked into the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace and will stay in the regal Tata Suite in the heritage wing till Monday morning.
On their third official visit to India after earlier ones in 2006 and 2010, they have a hectic programme lined up in Mumbai and Pune over the next three days.
Among the significant events lined up is the launch of the British Asian Trust Advisory Council with its chairman and business tycoon Mukesh Ambani Saturday evening.
On the occasion, three charities which have benefitted through the Trust's help will be given awards.
They are: Aangan, whose Project Shakti encourages vulnerable girls to realise their rights and gain access to services like education and healthcare; Educate Girls which helps improve quality and access to education for young girls in rural Rajasthan; and Mann Deshi, the country's first business school for illiterate rural women.
The couple will also attend a gala dinner here with a Bollywood flavour with top film personalities participating.
Mumbai and state police have deployed tight security in and around all the venues that the royal couple will visit.
