Kolkata, Nov 14 (IANS): British Prime Minister David Cameron said Thursday both India and Britain have been victims of terrorism and stressed on "concerted efforts" to combat the menace.

"Both the countries have been victims of terrorism and there is a need for security cooperation and toughness of dealing," Cameron told All India Radio in an interview during his visit to the city.

"Both the countries have to come up with a concerted effort to make the perpetrators understand that what they are doing, is really not good," he said.

Cameron, who will participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo, hoped it will stand up to values of democracy and human rights.

"Commonwealth is a family of nations and it believes in certain standards and values like democracy, human rights and freedom. He said it is important that the Commonwealth stands up for these values."

Earlier in the day in New Delhi, Cameron extended support to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's decision of not attending the meet.

Manmohan Singh decided not to attend the meet following opposition from Tamil Nadu parties and even members of his cabinet from the southern state.
