Mangala Express derails near Nashik; 4 feared dead

Nashik/Mumbai, Nov 15 (PTI):
Four passengers were feared killed and several others injured when ten coaches of a train derailed at Ghoti near Igatpuri in Nashik district this morning.

The mishap took place at around 6.20 AM today when 12618 Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express train was passing through the Ghoti-Igatpuri section near Nashik of the Central Railway, a Central Railway spokesperson said in Mumbai.

The cause of the accident is not yet known, he said.

According to rural police, four passengers were feared dead and several others injured in the derailment.

The injured have been rushed to Ghoti, Kasara and Nashik civil hospitals, while rescue operations were in progress, police added.

The Central Railway has set up a helpline for anxious relatives and kin of the passengers to enquire about them, the official said, adding that a medical relief van has already reached Ghoti.

Following the mishap, rail-traffic on the up side was affected, forcing railway authorities to cancel various trains, including Manmad-Kurla-Godavari Express and Manmad-Mumbai Panchavati Express.

Also, Sevagram Express and Rajya Rani Express were halted at Lasalgaon, a railway official at Nashik told PTI.

Further details were awaited.

Fate of Indian Railway under UPA can be clearly seen. Over 10 Elephants die in West Bengal when a Train passing through the sanctuary with speed over 80Kmph rams over a herd of 50 elephants. Railway authorities fail to keep in touch with concerned State Authorities, when Law clearly lays a speed limit of 30Kmph in the sanctuary. & case like this have been becoming common with dozens of derailings each year. Yet our Ministers keep boasting of Safety standards when they themselves fail to do so.
