Tunisia eliminated from World Cup qualifying

Yaounde (Cameroon), Nov 18 (IANS): Tunisia was eliminated from the World Cup qualifying as it slumped to second leg 1-4 playoff defeat to Cameroon here.

By the 30th minute, Cameroon had scored its second goal. Ahmed Akaichi secured Tunisia the score. They resumed scoring especially after Tunisia desperately changed its tactic and gave Cameroon more access to its goal area Sunday, reports Xinhua.

The first leg hosted by Tunisia Oct 13 ended in a goalless draw.

Tunisia had been initially eliminated after losing against Cape Verde last September.

A FIFA decision few days later, however, reinstated Tunisia and offered them a retroactive victory which moved it on top of its group and allowed to secured a place in the following qualifying stage.

However, Cameroon's win prevented Tunisia from securing a fifth appearance in the World Cup finals. The last time Tunisia participated in the World Cup was in 2006 in Germany.
