Guwahati, Apr 9
: Incensed by the abandonment of the India-England one-dayer, a section of the crowd at the Nehru Stadium turned unruly, throwing missiles on to the ground and burning posters in the galleries.

The crowd, which had patiently waited since morning for the match to begin, lost its cool after noon when the umpires called of the match after carrying out several inspections.

Trouble began from the eastern stand as some spectators started throwing water bottles and pelting stones on to the ground.

Soon the disturbance spread to the nearby stands with the crowd pulling down vinyl boards and other in-stadia advertisements.

Some people gathered posters and banners and put them afire. Some burning clothes were thrown in the area between the crowd fencing and the boundary line.

However, police brought the matter under control quickly, clearing the bottles and stones from the playing arena.
