Only 50 percent young voters to cast ballot in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS): Only 50 percent of those aged 18-19 will be able to vote in the Delhi assembly polls, the chief nodal officer of the Delhi Election Commission said here Tuesday.

"Youngsters, who turned 18 on or before Jan 1, 2013, are eligible to vote, whereas anyone whose date of birth is between January and November 2013 will not be eligible to vote even if they have turned 18 and have registered their names in the voters' list," said Ankur Garg.

As per data released by the Election Commission, only 3.6 lakh of those enrolled to vote in the assembly elections are aged 18 or 19, whereas the actual number of voters in the age group 18-19 is 6.4 lakh, he said.

The 3.6 lakh young eligible voters, constitute only three percent of the capital's total voters.
