Udupi, Apr 10: A young man died of falling from a coconut tree at Moodu-Perampally near here on Sunday April 9.

The deceased has been identified as Hanumanta (20), a resident of Shyam Circle near Kakkunje here.  He actually hailed from Ramdurg in Belgaum district. 

On Sunday he had climbed up a coconut tree to pluck coconuts.  However, he slipped and fell down.  As a result he died on the spot.

The sources said that he was an expert in climbing trees.  He had even won several prizes for this.  Recently he had won the first prize in climbing betel nut tree, a competition organized by Shri Krishna Math here in view of Shri Krishna Janmashthami.  He had also won similar prizes at competitions held at Udyavar and Ambalpady.

The Manipal police have registered a case in this regard.
