Mangalore, Apr 12: The people of the undivided district woke up to the shocking news of a string of suicides reported from different places.

Shashikumar  (37), who had attempted suicide on April 7 by consuming poison, succumbed to the side-effects in the hospital on April 10. He was reportedly dreading the idea of the police coming in search of him in connection with a case filed in the Kadri police station.

Shankar (50), working as oilman at NMPT and a snake-catcher by hobby, has ended life by hanging himself from the roof at home near Suratkal.

At Brahmarakotlu-Bantwal, Yashoda (50), a houswife, committed suicide by hanging herself at home from the roof with a sari. Her husband is a retired KSRTC driver and currently runs tempo transport.

Vinayakumari (35), a housewife residing in a rented house in Chowta compound in Kadri-Kambla, Bijai, ended life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. She was reportedly depressed ever since her daughter died of Malaria a few months ago.

Sukumar (27), from Nitte working as an auto workshop employee near Ramanath Sabhabhavan in Karkala, committed suicide by hanging himself in the workshop while the owner had gone for lunch.

Sharanappa (30), a daily-wage-earner from Kushtagi taluk in Koppal district, living in a small rented house in Uchila-Someshwar near Ullal, committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree.
