Congress party, government in Kerala united: Moily

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 23 (IANS): Commenting on the excellent performance of the Oommen Chandy-led Congress government, a top Congress central leader has pointed out that the party and the state government in Kerala are united.

Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily, who is also the chairman of the manifesto committee of the Congress party, Saturday chaired its first meeting at the state party headquarters here.

"The Chandy government has done an excellent job when it came to manifesto implementation. This is the best performing government and shows the party and the government are united," said Moily.

He was responding to a question whether the relation between the Chandy-led Congress government and the Ramesh Chennithala-led state Congress party has soured.

Chandy intervened and categorically assured he would not have been able to do this much, if not for the support of the party.

"I am getting full support from the party and there is no difference between the party and the government. Some difference of opinion might be there, but tell me, has a single day been lost in governance because of that? I don't feel any difficulty at all in running the government though there is only a slender majority (the government has 73 legislators in the 140-member assembly)," said Chandy.

Moily added the Chandy government was able to fulfil 103 programmes of the 106 programmes in the 100-day programme, announced after this government assumed office here May 18, 2011.

"In the one-year programme announced after this, of the 671 programmes announced, 102 have been fully implemented, 283 by and large implemented, 46 are under consideration and the feedback of implementation is awaited for 120. And when it came to programmes of the central government also, the implementation has been perfect," added Moily.

The status of the remaining 120 programmes was not announced.

He also complimented the efforts of the Chandy government for 100 percent record in generation of man days in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act programme.
