Egypt to start constitutional referendum in January

Cairo, Nov 25 (IANS): Egypt's interim Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi Monday said the referendum over the constitution will take place in the second half of January.

"The 50-member panel tasked with drafting the new constitution reviews the articles of the new constitution, before the final vote starts next week," Amro Moussa, head of the panel said.

Egypt suspended the 2012 constitution in the wake of the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in early July. The army has put forward a roadmap including amending the constitution, reports Xinhua.

The panel of 50 members began work in September on amending the constitution.
