Don't leave Bengal for jobs: Mamata urges people

Kolkata, Nov 27 (IANS): Asserting that her government was endeavouring to generate employment, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday urged people not to migrate to other states for jobs.

"I urge you all not to go to other states for jobs. You go to Maharashtra and work there for nothing. You go to Delhi and live in miserable conditions and later you are arrested for being Bangladeshis and sent back home," Banerjee said at a public rally in Raiganj in North Dinajpur district.

Claiming her government was working tirelessly to implement developmental schemes and projects, Banerjee promised employment for the people as she urged them to take up jobs under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

On a visit to north Bengal, Banerjee held meetings with district officials and said she had instructed them to efficiently implement all government schemes and projects within three months.

"No matter how much canard is spread against us, we will continue to stick to our commitment of working for the welfare of the people. I have held administrative meetings with the district officials and instructed them to implement all the schemes within three months," said Banerjee.

The chief minister urged officials from various government departments to spend more time in the field listening to the problems of the people and warned them against keeping files pending for long.

Hope Didi's aspiration may come true as early as possible. From here I have seen so many workers are coming every week for getting work and facing lots of problems staying in very very uncertain miserable condition. I feel really sorry to see all but helpless to do anything for them.

Dear CM, I kindly request you to look beyond the usual vote bank people from labor class and immigrants from neighbouring country. I being a woman out of my native for about 10 years today only for teh fact I am into IT/ ITES which do not have a significant presence in Bengal. Every year there is a huge brain drain out of state from reputed universities to other state like Karnataka for IT jobs and better living. Bengalis are making significant real estate investment outside bengal. They are paying tax to other state govt. Please , I kindly request you to develop infrastruce across bengal to bring Foreign and IT investment into the state. To hell with poor and poverty. Every one must work and earn a living. Even I work hard to support my family and I dont get a freee mean if I dont. Thanks.
