CCTV cameras, guards ordered for Gurgaon ATMs

Gurgaon, Nov 27 (IANS): The Gurgaon district magistrate (DM) Wednesday invoked Section 144 CrPC and directed all bank managers in the town to install CCTV cameras, and set up proper lighting and adequate security in each ATM within 15 days of this order.

The order comes in the wake of the brutal machete attack by a robber on Corporation Bank officer Jyothi Uday inside a Bangalore ATM kiosk Nov 19.

In the orders issued here, district magistrate Shekhar Vidyarthi said high-quality CCTV cameras should have a back-up of at least a month and a security guard should be deployed round the clock.

Action will be initiated against violators of these orders under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, he said.

Gurgaon district has more than 500 ATMs of various banks.

Vidyarthi said CCTV cameras should be installed both inside and outside the ATM and there should be proper lighting.
